Access to safe water and the Gospel in The Sahel
Prospectus
Summary
Between 2024 and 2028, neverthirst plans to invest $26.9M through its local partners to construct 785 water access points—using a range of appropriate water technologies—and to deliver sanitation and hygiene training across targeted regions in three countries in East Africa and the Sahel. neverthirst’s implementing partners also equip and connect local churches, often marginalized themselves, with opportunities to serve and build relationships in their communities. Together, they bring clean water, hygiene, improved sanitation, and the hope of the gospel to some of the hardest-to-reach places.
At a cost of $57 per person, approximately 468,642 people are expected to gain sustainable access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation as a result of these programs. In addition, 100% of water user committees are expected to be trained and actively maintaining their systems.
This program delivers the largest effect in the portfolio due to its strong efficacy and substantial scope. When controlling for budget size, its efficiency ranks within the top four. It also operates in the second most impoverished setting in the portfolio. For these reasons, neverthirst’s work with its implementing WASH partners represents an excellent and high-impact investment within the portfolio.
